Our denomination

Our denomination

Grace is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), a denomination of about 300 churches in the United States and Canada. The OPC seeks to follow the Scriptures and proclaim the gospel of Christ above all. These commitments played a key role in the formation of the OPC, which was born in the context of doctrinal struggles in the northern mainline Presbyterian Church in the 1920’s and 30’s.

In the face of weakening commitment to the authority of Scripture and key doctrines about Christ – his deity, virgin birth, miracles, atoning death, and resurrection – numerous ministers and congregations left the mainline church to form the nucleus of the OPC. Our denomination continues to bear witness to the gospel of Christ as a biblically faithful Presbyterian church.

Our history and commitments are similar to our larger sister denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), which separated from the southern mainline church amid similar struggles.
